Carry your files with you
A couple months ago, a colleague at work introduced me to DropBox, which was in private beta at the time. Their motto is simple: online storage that just works.
Take a look at the video and give it a try. They have clients for Windows, Linux and the Mac.
I just started playing with it, but I can already see that it has a very good chance of becoming a key member of my utility toolbox, along with such gems as Pando and FileZilla. It makes it very easy to synchronize documents or other files across multiple systems, and keep version history.
It also means that businesses are going to have one more mechanism to worry about if they don't trust their employees.
You get a nice 2.0 GB of storage to play with, and I expect that there'll be more made available for a price, and you can save both public and private data. I'll post another update once I've used it for a couple weeks. I'm going to link up my home PC, laptop and work PC to the shared storage account and see if and how it changes my data management experience.
